TangYi Studio at 11: AI, Film, Web & App Development

林政賢 ·

I opened the company Instagram and realised the last update was starting to qualify as an archive.

A quick reassurance: we are still here. The company did not close; the founder went off to research AI and forgot to post. It sounds like an excuse, but the projects below should at least make it an excuse with homework attached.

I’m Zheng Xian Lin, founder of TangYi Studio. Founded in 2015, our company reached its eleventh year in 2026. This is less a buttoned-up corporate introduction and more an open studio door: here is what has been keeping us busy.

I wanted less work. I ended up with more things I could do.

I entered the film and television industry in 2012, established my first company in 2013, and founded TangYi in 2015. For years, my work revolved around video, shows, post-production and visual effects: making the images work, telling the story clearly, and delivering before the deadline.

Over the past two-plus years, I have been bringing generative AI into that workflow. It started with visual ideas and production. Then I discovered that coding could become another way to solve problems.

“Could this save us some time?” gradually turned into websites, online platforms, mobile apps and tools for our own work. I meant to reduce the workload. Apparently, I only expanded the menu. My skill tree is flourishing; my calendar is still full.

Film is the foundation. AI is a new part of the toolkit.

Post-production taught me something important: having an image is not the same as having the right image. Lighting, movement, continuity and the meaning of a scene still need judgement.

The portfolio cards list work on the film 《危城兄弟》 and the series 《轉過頭幫你擦眼淚》, 《秘密關係》 and 《看見愛》. My role on 《危城兄弟》 included VFX supervision and production; the listed series involved VFX production. These are individual and team contributions in the stated roles, not claims that we independently produced the entire film or series. Original Chinese titles are retained for identification.

With AI filmmaking, SECONDHAND is a different kind of hands-on project: character design, storyboards, generated material, editing and sound assembled into a film. The tools changed; someone still has to look after the story. A character’s hands should not suddenly launch a side project halfway through a scene.

Websites and apps—not just “something I’ve been looking into”

I prefer building something before explaining what it can do. tangyi.mx is an example of our brand and interactive website work. TangYi Workshop is a SaaS platform under continuing development and iteration—in plain English, online tools you can use in a browser.

Our independently developed party card-game app is already on the App Store. That is a different stage from designing a few attractive screens: it also involves user flows, functional testing, submission requirements, and what actually happens when someone taps a button.

Other directions include Wenwen’s 3D house version, 品德故事屋 (an educational story app), and Missen.me. Wenwen’s character and house prototypes are still in development, and the other projects continue to evolve at their own pace. A prototype on display does not quietly get promoted to “launched product.”

We can help with brand websites, interactive showcases, custom apps, or a working prototype of your idea. Does it need to become a complete platform on day one? Not necessarily. Getting the core function working is often more useful than building a department store with everything inside and nobody at the door.

Don’t just ask AI for answers. Connect it to the work.

“Workflow” sounds like a word from a slide deck. It really means connecting the steps: where the material comes from, who handles it, which tools are used, where it gets checked, and what is delivered.

Visual content might move from character references to generation, post-production, formatting and export. Not every step should be automated, and adding AI does not remove the need for human review.

Tangyi Cam is another concrete example: connecting phone controls to camera previsualisation in Blender, a 3D creation application. The aim is to help filmmakers explore camera movement more intuitively—not give them another list of keyboard shortcuts to memorise.

These projects can involve content production, tool integration, or repetitive tasks within a team. Finding the real bottleneck before deciding what to build is usually more practical than buying a big bundle of AI tools and hoping for the best.

The question I’m happy to take on: “Could this work?”

If an idea involves digital production, I’m happy to take a look and quickly map a feasible route: what can be built directly, what needs a test, what existing tools can handle, and even what is not worth spending money on.

I’m not promising that everything can be made instantly. I offer a quick assessment of the direction, a prototype, and a path from a suitable solution to a deliverable result.

AI has made many experiments easier to start. But “everything costs one tenth as much” and “any system can be finished in days” are not universal quotations. A proof of concept, a usable prototype and a production product are different jobs. Data security, integration, testing and maintenance do not disappear with one more prompt.

Some ideas can be tested quickly; others need phases. Defining the scope and success criteria first helps us cut detours, rather than cut necessary checks.

We make content. We have also built an audience.

As of September 2026, a YouTube channel I operate has more than 250,000 subscribers, and cumulative reach across our own video and media activity exceeds 600 million. These are historical results, not a promise that every commissioned video will go viral. Cross-platform reach is not a count of unique people.

From programme planning and production to channel development, I care about more than whether an image looks good: who will watch, why they will stop scrolling, and what they will take away. Why is our own company Instagram so quiet? Think of a chef who is too busy cooking to photograph the menu.

The cards also summarise past awards and shortlist selections: our team’s 2015 Ministry of Education U-start record, three My RØDE Reel nominations for Voice Bank, Kaohsiung Metro short-film awards, and LINE VOOM selections. Awards are distinguished from nominations, and individual roles from team achievements.

The lessons—and the mistakes—come into the classroom too.

Alongside production and development, I teach as a university industry lecturer and provide corporate training and hands-on workshops. Topics include generative AI, video production and running media channels, adapted to participants’ experience, available time and work situations.

I want people to leave with more than a new tool name: they should know which part of their own work they can improve first. Forgetting the name is fine, if you go home with one less recurring problem to argue with.

Working together does not require a fifty-page proposal.

Whether you need a video, website, app, AI workflow, or someone to guide your team through practical training, start with three things: what you want to achieve, what you already have, and when you need it. If you have a budget range, share that too—so we do not discover halfway through that our plans live in different galaxies.

TangYi is based in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Remote collaboration and on-site services across Taiwan can be discussed. Message @tangyi_studio or email [email protected]. Start with the problem, not an exam in software names.

Eleven years in, I still love the moment when an idea stops being a chat message and becomes something in front of us. That is why I explore AI: to help more people move their ideas forward and make tools useful in everyday life and work. And yes, it is finally time to update the company account too.

About the figures, images and project status

Prepared on September 24, 2026. Company age is based on its 2015 founding. The 250,000+ YouTube subscriber figure is supplied by the founder; 600 million+ reach and other card figures come from the founder’s website and existing records. Definitions, platforms and reporting periods may differ. They are not independently audited unique-audience counts or guarantees of future results. Phone frames, clapperboards and node interfaces include presentation mockups. AI-generated teaching scenes do not document real events, students or attendance. Projects in development are not necessarily launched products. Film credits, awards and nominations refer to the roles identified in the cards and website biography. This article introduces TangYi’s own services and portfolio. The original cards retain their Chinese text; the accompanying captions are translated.
